Whether you need intensive English to thrive in America or confident driving skills for the island, we offer focused, personal instruction that adapts to how fast you learn.
Massachusetts English Institute was founded on a simple belief: the best learning happens when instruction meets the individual. Located on Center Street in the heart of Nantucket, we serve a diverse community of learners — from newcomers building their first sentences to professionals refining their fluency.
Our programs are designed for real life. We don't teach to tests alone; we prepare you to navigate daily conversations, workplace interactions, and the practical skills you need to feel at home in America.
Every program is flexible, practical, and taught by experienced instructors who understand the challenges English learners face.
Structured ESL courses for all levels — from absolute beginner to advanced. Build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through immersive, conversation-based lessons.
One-on-one instruction tailored entirely to your needs. Whether you're preparing for an exam, strengthening a weak area, or accelerating your fluency, your lessons move at your pace.
Learn to drive with patience and confidence. Our driving lessons cover road safety, traffic rules, and practical behind-the-wheel training — everything you need to pass your test and drive independently.
Four principles guide every lesson we teach.
Your starting point matters. We assess your current level and design a path that respects your experience while pushing you forward.
Grammar matters, but communication matters more. Every class prioritizes real conversation so you gain confidence quickly.
We keep class sizes small so every student gets the attention and feedback they need to improve consistently.
Everything you learn is designed for everyday use — from ordering coffee to passing a driving test to thriving at work.
I arrived not knowing a word of English. After six months of classes, I was having conversations with my neighbors and feeling confident at the grocery store. The instructors made every session feel supportive and productive.
The private tutoring was exactly what I needed. My instructor understood my goals immediately and structured each lesson around the skills I actually needed for my job. I improved faster than I expected.
Driving on Nantucket felt impossible at first — the roads, the traffic, the uncertainty. My instructor was patient and thorough. I passed my road test on the first try and now drive across the island without worry.
